When we talk about voodoo, we immediately think of the voodoo doll and complex and difficult rituals to do. For this reason, many baby witches feel discouraged and decide to give up and dedicate themselves to other spells. So can you do voodoo with a picture only, or do you need other things as well? Let’s take a look.
Can you do voodoo with a picture?
Yes, you can do voodoo magic with a picture, but you need a few other tools as well. I have to admit, voodoo with a picture was one of the first things I tried when I started exploring voodoo.
Let’s talk about voodoo for a moment, and after that, I’ll show you a Voodoo ritual that requires a picture.

Voodoo: an ancient magical practice
Voodoo is an Afro-Caribbean religion that originates in Haiti, although it has numerous followers in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, the United States, and elsewhere. Ah, and it has nothing to do with the so-called voodoo or zombie dolls.
Voudon refers to different cultural elements, beliefs, personal and medical practices transmitted from generation to generation. It teaches faith in a supreme being called Bondye, an unknowable and faceless creator god.
For example, if you are a farmer you can make offers to the spirit of agriculture; if you are suffering from unrequited love, you can venerate Erzulie Freda, the spirit of love, and so on. These spirits can take possession, among other things, of the body of their worshipers.
Voodoo followers also believe in universal energy and that a soul that can leave the body. In Christian theology, spiritual possession is usually considered an evil act, linked to Satan or to some demonic entity that tries to take possession of a body.
In voodoo, on the other hand, you willingly want to be possessed by spirits. In a ceremony led by a priest or priestess, this possession is considered a precious spiritual experience and a connection with the spiritual world.
Why and when should you use voodoo?
You can use voodoo to work with energy in a powerful way and, especially if you want to create special connections with someone or you want to banish someone from your life, it can be the perfect practice to do.
Voodoo rituals often require material from the customer and the target (photos, clothing, hair) which act as ‘portal’ transmission material.
Sometimes inventories are incorporated into an amulet, or into an object to be given to the target (or to be kept by yourself), at other times, it is not necessary at all (it depends on the skills and preferences of the Hougans or Mambos who work there).
In these cases, the materials are totally consumed by the ritual and the desired effects arrive despite enormous geographical distances and the absence of any remaining materials.
Despite the power of Voodoo ritualism, the final effects must follow the principles of magic which is that it does not harm anyone and that does not create lasting negative effects for the recipient. We cannot get out of these absolute energy rules, because if you do, there are inevitable energy consequences and they can be dramatic or simply, the ritual does not work and you have spent a lot of money for nothing.
Voodoo ritual with a picture
You can use this ritual to Voodoo for an enemy
Things you need
- A picture (of your target)
- Something that belongs to that person (not mandatory)
- A black candle
How it’s done
Light the black candle and take the picture of the person you want to get rid of between your hands.
If you have something that belongs to that person like blood, hair, or an object, you can place it on the picture to boost the effect and really direct it to the right person.
Close your eyes and visualize this person taking many steps away from you, watch this person fade away and feel a sense of freedom and of release. Now, it’s time to send bad energy to this person so take the needle and strike the picture right in the face.
If this ritual is related to a romantic relationship, maybe you want to get rid of an ex who made you suffer, who cheated on you, let’s bring things to the other level so, if the picture shows it, strike the picture with the needle right at their heart.
While doing so chant a customized prayer like this one:
“I send you pain, I send you suffering, I want you to stay away from me and live the rest of your life in pain and discomfort. No happy ending for you. So be it”.
Visualize this person suffering at each strike of the picture.
If you choose, you can burn the picture with the flame of the black candle or, if you want to keep chanting those words and keep working on this spell over time, you can keep it aside or even take the picture and its remains into a box or a small bag with the needles on it.
As it happens for traditional magic, follow your instincts, set your intentions, and visualize what you want to achieve to really help the universe make the magic.
