In this final installment of my Spread of the Week series, I’d like to take a moment to focus on the use of tarot cards in ritual as opposed to divination.
The imagery and symbolism of the tarot make it ideal in spell work.
Instead of giving you very specific instructions, I’d like to help you write your own ritual using tarot cards.
First things first. Let’s look at some basic correspondences. You can certainly choose your own, but here are some basic guidelines to get you started in selecting the appropriate card for the ritual, especially if you are not deeply familiar with the tarot as a system.
Protection = King of Swords
Prosperity/Abundance = 10 of Pentacles
Fertility = Empress
Love = 2 of Cups
Passion = The Lovers
Creativity = The Fool
Dream Magick = The Moon
Psychic Awareness = The High Priestess
Confidence = The Chariot
Healing = Temperance
Job Spells = The World
Court Case Spells = Justice
Luck = Wheel of Fortune
Overcome Addiction = The Devil
Wishing Spell = The Star
One simple method is to simply choose the appropriate card and surround it with a corresponding herb.
For example:
The Empress + Apple offering = Fertility Blessing
The Lovers + the Two of Cups + Rose Buds = Classic Love Spell
Ten of Pentacles + Thyme = Abundance/Prosperity Spell
Justice + Sage = Court Case Blessing
King of Swords + Rosemary = Protection Spell
There are an infinite number of ways to do this, and I encourage you to explore your own. This approach is very easy to customize, which is what is so great about it.
You can also incorporate gemstones, candles or oils in enhance or substitute the herbs.
