Spell Creams: The Ultimate Witchy Self Care
I first began playing with spell creams earlier this spring with my Green Witch Abundance Sacred Spell Cream.
And now? I’m totally hooked.
I love coming up with new ways to incorporate complimentary spell ingredients into something that smells yummy and makes my skin feel divine.
Magical Correspondences
I chose the key ingredients in this body cream for their sacredness to the woodlands and spirits of the forest.
Wear this cream to enchant your life with the magic of the unseen world and bring out your natural, ethereal beauty.
Cedarwood Essential Oil
The earthy aroma of the majestic cedarwood calls to mind everything about the sacred nature of time spent in the woodlands.
Druid traditions regard cedar as The Tree of Life.
Modern witches use the essential oil in blends to ground themselves to the earth and encourage communion with the woodland spirits (aka “the Fae”).
Rose & Lavender Essential Oil
The association of fairies and roses descends from the Elizabethan era, when even Shakespeare referred to fairies dwelling among the woodland flowers in his exceptionally magical play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
In it, Oberon the fairy King directs Puck (the mischievous, trouble-making fairy that catalyzes the major events) to find Titania the Fairy Queen among the woodland herbs & flowers.
“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight…” (Act II, 1)
We include rose & lavender in this cream in honor of this sacred association.
Beeswax
In European folklore, the connection between bees and fairies is both intimate and mysterious.
Even more deeply, the sacredness of bees crosses cultures and spiritual traditions.
Bees symbolize communication between humans and the spirit world, as well as our natural surroundings.
Ingredients
(Please note: This section contains affiliate links for your convenience. Read all about this policy on Moody Moon’s disclosure page.)
-2 tablespoon beeswax
-1/2 cup shea butter
-1/2 cup almond oil
-2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder
-30 drops lavender essential oil
-20 drops cedarwood essential oil
-15 drops rose essential oil
–optional: teaspoon purple micah powder (for color)
Step 1
Melt beeswax first. It is the hardest ingredient with the highest melting point. Over very low heat in a small pot, melt it all the way down, watching constantly.
Add in shea butter. It should melt quickly.
Step 2
Add almond oil, then essential oils, to the melted beeswax and shea butter blend.
Remove from heat. In a small bowl, blend arrowroot or cornstarch with purple micah powder (if using).
Optionally, you may whip your cream for a lighter consistency. Just allow it to cool until slightly translucent, then use an immersion blender for 30-40 seconds.
Pour into a clean glass jar and store it for up to 12 months.
