New Year’s Wheel of the Year Tarot Spread

Draw this New Year’s tarot spread to gain insight and live your best life in the coming 12 months.

What will the new year bring to you?  Love?  A new job opportunity?  Travel?

Personally, I believe no one knows the future.  Not even the tarot. 

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

Learning to work with the cards helps you to envision that future and break away mental blocks.

Use this spread to cultivate your vision for the months ahead and get a jump start on what lies ahead.

Do I have to do this spread on New Year’s?

The most common question I get about the New Year’s tarot spread is whether or not you must do it on New Year’s.

Of course, you can do this spread any time of year.  Just rotate the months so that the top month is the next month.  So, for example, if you do it in June, make the top card July and draw cards from July to June of the next year.

This is especially effective if you start it at the beginning of a major life transition.

For example, begin this spread during the first month of motherhood, a new job or a marriage.

How to read this spread.

The first 12 positions of this spread are pretty straight forward.

Starting at the top and going clockwise, from January to December, each card on the circular pattern represents a month in the coming year.

If you get to a month and the card seems confusing or unclear, feel free to draw an additional card (a “clarifying” card) to help you understand it.

In your book of shadows or grimoire, draw a diagram of the spread and record each card with its corresponding month so you can refer to it throughout the year.

Consider each card a theme or point of focus for that month.

The Focus Card.

The most important card in this spread is the card in the middle.

This is the focus card, and pulls together all the other cards with one central theme for the whole year.

Do not panic if the card contains dark imagery.

Remember that cards like the death card and the devil card often prove to be the most liberating cards in the tarot.

The real goal is not to predict events, but to select and leave to chance a theme to focus on for the year.  If the theme you draw feels uncomfortable or difficult, all the more reason to give it some attention.

Remember that our personal progress takes quantum leaps forward when we leave our comfort zone.

The more uncomfortable, the greater the progress.
