In occult terminology, a lunar day begins at a moonrise and ends when the moon sets.

When Does it Happen?
The first lunar day always occurs at the moment of the New Moon.
The second lunar day begins the next moonrise after the New Moon. It is important to note that these times are location-specific.
The first lunar day for you begins at the moment of the New Moon where you are. For me, it may begin a few hours before or after depending on my location in relation to yours.
Each lunar day is lucky or unlucky for certain activities according to various lore. Which these are can vary greatly by culture.
Scientifically speaking, a lunar day is the amount of time it takes the moon to complete a full rotation on its axis in relation to the sun or to complete a full rotation around the Earth.
In other words, in astronomical terms, a lunar day is the time it takes the moon to return to the same lunar phase it began in, or a full lunation, about 29 1/2 Earth days.

The Energy of the Lunar Day
The Moon is the most important celestial body for the witches.
It is the only natural satellite of our planet that completes its orbit around the Earth in about 27 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes, and 11 seconds. However, from the terrestrial point of view, the lunar cycle is completed in almost 30 days due to our planet’s simultaneous rotation.
It should be noted that the Moon always remains in the region of the sky called the Zodiac, crossing it every four weeks (see: The Moon in the Signs).
Furthermore, in its motion, it travels through the 28 Lunar Houses, which, according to tradition, are guarded by as many Angels.
The lunar orbit describes a path that has a point of Apogee and a point of Perigee which are respectively the maximum and minimum “distance from the Earth”.
When the Moon is at the point of “Perigee,” it appears to us in the sky clearer and more extended due to its proximity, and vice versa at the moment of “Apogee.”
Obviously, its influence on the Earth is directly proportional to its distance from it.
Different phases during a lunar day and best magickal works
Waxing Crescent
During this phase, the Moon was called Virgo Hecate or Aglaia (one of the three Graces) or Selene. In Nordic mythology, however, this phase was associated with Urdhr, one of the three Norns.
In this period, in fact, the moon is favorable for everything that represents novelty and beginning. It is perfect for making bonds and pacts, starting projects and activities, and everything that (in general) concerns growth.
Full Moon
During this phase, the ancients called the Moon Mature Hecate or Mother, Persephone, Talia (one of the Graces), or Artemis/Diana. The Nordics associated this phase with Verdhandi, personification of the Present.
It is the Moon of prosperity, fertility, confirmations and knowledge. It is the best moon for undertaking studies, confirming desires and intentions, reaping the fruits of work and projects and operations that have prosperity and fertility as their object or end.
Waning Moon
Also called Elder Hecate or Demeter, Euphrosyne (the third of the Graces) is the moon of emptying, of the end. The Nordics associated it with Skuld, one of the three Norns.
The Waning Moon is the perfect time for rituals of separation and purification, to interrupt habits and situationsย or relationships that no longer have a reason to exist and for everything that has as its object (or purpose) the conclusion and the decrease.
To these three phases is added the New Moon, also called Black Moon or Infernal Hecate. During this stage the Moon is not visible from the Earth. According to the ancients it died to be reborn after three days with a new cycle and the corresponding “Crescent Moon”.
In practice the New Moon is very powerful and it is good to pay attention to the operations that are carried out in this period.
As a Moon belonging to the underworld, the Black Moon presides over evil spells and all destructive magic. Although not all destructive rituals are “evil” and “disharmonious”, we advise against performing them during this phase because of the excessive power released by the star.
It is better to perform such rituals in the “waning phase”.
New Moon
As we were saying, the “New Moon” is linked to the moment immediately preceding rebirth. It is therefore the Moon of rest, of “not acting”, of accumulating new forces to (subsequently) acquire new knowledge.
In this regard, any practical operation to dedicate oneself to study, meditation and divination is strongly discouraged, operations that in this astrological moment receive particularly beneficial influences.
Conclusion
A Lunar day is the most important astrological event for witches as you can both honor the moon and make the most of its different phases to perform specific magick and manifest what you want.
