A few days back, I showed you how to bake sun cakes in honor of the solar energy that dominates the summer months. Now, I’m going to show you how you can use ritual cakes to invite light and happiness into your life.
(Please note: This post contains affiliate links. You’re welcome to read all about this practice on Moody Moon’s disclosure page. Spoiler alert: It’s pretty boring.)
If you don’t have a sun cake and don’t feel like baking one, you can use store bought lemon cookies. Personally, I like to work the offering food by hand, but it’s not essential.
You will need:
*About 50 small stones
*an offering cake or cookie
*incense
*four yellow candles
*altar tile (optional)
Find a nice, quiet, sunny spot where you won’t be disturbed. This is nice to do in the morning facing East.
The first thing I did was lay out the stones in a circle. Stone formations have a long, ancient history with sun worshipers. Think of sun dials, the Great Pyramids and Stonehenge.
I made mine about 1.5′ in diameter, but you can adjust the space to your needs.
Next, sprinkle some biodegradable gold glitter inside the circle. The shimmering of the glitter attracts light energy, and gives the space an “enchanted” feel.
I placed an altar tile in the center before putting the cake on top. You may opt to do this, or just put the cake directly on the earth.
Next, I lit some yellow tea candles. Yellow is the color of solar energy, happiness and creativity. I chose four candles, because four is the number of emotional stability and grounded-ness. As an added bonus, these also happened to have citronella in them!
From here, you can adjust the spell to your personal needs. Perhaps sit quietly contemplating the flickering of the candles. Or, imagine a light at the center of your being growing stronger. Maybe you’d like to dedicate the altar to a sun diety, or the “Light of Heaven.” I lit some incense to “carry up” my thoughts.
Since it’s an offering cake, and you’re not going to eat it, you can stick the incense directly in the cake. Or, do what I did, and use the remaining half of a lemon as an incense holder.
This altar was close to my kitchen window where I could keep an eye on it, so I was comfortable letting everything “burn down” in its own time. But you can extinguish it all when you’re finished, and bury the remaining components on the East end of your property. Blessed be!
*Please note: Severe clinical depression is a serious condition. This spell is meant to address the spiritual side of depression, not the medical one. Please seek medical help if you are suffering from severe depression. There are lots of options out there for you.

Thank u!
Of course! Love your blog!
Noooo. Please tell me that glitter was biodegradable. Glitter is extremely bad for the environment and our water, glitter is so small it almost never breaks down naturally, https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/11/glitter-plastics-ocean-pollution-environment-spd/
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for pointing this out!
I have included a link to biodegradable glitter in the post.
Tiffany
absolutely love this and can’t wait to try!
Awesome! If you do, feel free to share your experience here. Or, if you’re into pictures, tag me on Instagram so I can see! I love when people do this, it makes my day!!
Oh I will be trying this after I visit to the store!!
Thank you for this, I feel like I’ve done everything to address the medical side of depression and now I’m trying more magickal methods. I would love the comfort and security that spirituality brings, but I have a hard time finding it in myself as an agnostic leaning Wiccan. I appreciate this spell and I’ll give it a try!
Hello I was wondering if we use like rocks or crystal
