Cinnabar is Mercury Sulfide or HgS. It is a brick-red rock, generally, and is occasionally found in the form of a red crystal. Most mercury is obtained by heating cinnabar so that the mercury evaporates and collecting the resulting gas.
It has been used for decorative material, jewelry and painting. It is extremely dangerous to inhale or ingest the powder.
Cinnabar has been called dragon’s blood, but this is a resin that is similar in appearance to the crystal, much less dangerous.
Cinnabar is considered a stone of transformation and has been called the merchant’s stone. It is used to bring about spiritual transformation and attract wealth.
