Kitchen Scraps: The Spell Ingredients You’re Throwing Away

If you love to cook with whole, natural foods, then kitchen scraps likely pile up high in your compost pile.  Don’t miss a magical opportunity!  Take those scraps and use them as spell ingredients!  Below, I listed 10 common kitchen scraps and their uses in magic.

Orange Peels

Egg Shells

Crush egg shells with a mortar and pestle, then sprinkle the powder around your bed to support fertility.   If cracked carefully, egg shells also make wonderful for vessels for tea candles to use in Ostara rituals or fertility rites.  For more ideas, check out 10 Ways to Use Eggs in Witchcraft.

Leftover Herbs & Spices

Coffee Grounds

Allow coffee grounds to dry on a paper towel, then use them to “speed up” spells or in rituals for inspiring creativity, motivation and forward thinking.

Stale Bread

Drizzle a little honey on stale bread and leave it in the forest as an offering to woodland spirits along with a wish written on a piece of parchment.  Make Haitian French Toast with it for the solar holidays (especially Ostara or Litha).

Avocado Pits

Use avocado pits in spells for beauty, youth and glamour.  Here’s one to try.

Apple Peels

Wilting Flowers

If you love the ambience of fresh flowers, but mourn how quickly they fade, hang them upside down in a window and dry them.  Then, look up their magical properties and use them in your spell work.  Waste not, want not!

Carrot Peels

Dry carrot peels and use them in spells for fertility, creativity or to represent the Sacral Chakra.

Potato Scraps

Bury patata scraps in the garden to encourage abundance or “fertilize” a garden spell into fruition.
