Supplies

*Twigs about 8″ in length

*gold spray paint

*printer paper

*ribbon or natural twine

*gold glitter cardstock

*(affiliate link –>) moon stamp

*hot glue gun/sticks

Primer paso

Go on a nature walk and get yourself some twigs.  You want twigs that are smooth through the middle, but it’s okay if the ends branch off.

Spray paint the twigs in a well-ventilated area.

Paso 2

On a Word document (or whatever your preferred program is), select a font you like and layout the invitation.

I left space in the middle to add an ink stamp, but you can use clip art, or skip it all together.

Paso 3

Soak your invitations in a coffee bath.

If you are using an ink stamp, wait until after the coffee bath to press it.

The first time around, I made the mistake of pressing the ink stamp before the coffee bath.  It worked out okay, but it came out a little blurry.

The longer you soak them, the deep and richer the color will be.  I left mine in the coffee soak for about 30 minutes.

Paso 4

In the meantime, make a simple pattern of a crescent moon.  You can freehand this, or making small moons using the technique in this tutorial.

Trace and cut out one moon for each invitation.

Paso 5

Hot glue each moon onto about 12-14 inches of natural twine or ribbon.

Paso 6

You can skip this step and just remove the invitations from the bath.  They will air dry over night, assuming you are not in a very humid climate.

But for the rest of us, the oven speeds up the process a lot.  BE VERY CAREFUL.  Paper flares easily in the oven.  Keep a close eye on it, and never leave it unattended.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

Lay out each invitation on a flat surface, like a cookie sheet.  (I laid them out individually.  I didn’t want to stack them and risk them sticking together.  Your mileage may vary).

Check in the oven in 2-5 minute increments until the invitations are dry.

Paso 7

Squeeze a line of hot glue to one of the painted, dried twigs.

Press it into the top edge of the invitation.

Repeat with another twig on the bottom.

Repeat until all the invitations have a twig on the top, and the bottom.

Allow the glue to dry for a few minutes before rolling.

Paso 8

With one hand on the top twig, and one hand on the bottom twig, slowly and tightly roll each twig towards the other until the invitation forms a rolled scroll.

Paso 9

Center one of the cardstock moons on the twine in the middle of the rolled scroll.

Wind the twine around the scroll and behind the moon.  I went around 3-4 times.

Step 10

Tie the loose ends together in the back of the scroll snuggly, just like you would a pair of sneakers.

This makes them easy to open.  All they need to do is pull one of the loose ends and it opens.

Step 11

Give away and enjoy!

Blessed be!

  1. Such a fab idea and so lovely. I don’t have occasion to use invitations but I did think they’d be great for decoration, with a poem or seasonal saying on them, maybe for Yule or other celebrations. Beautiful! 🙂
