Celebrate Beltane: Goddess Bath Ritual

Famous for its associations with love, attraction, and the alluring power of feminine charm, Beltane is the perfect time for beauty and glamour spells.

This bath harnesses the sacred energies of Aphrodite, Roman goddess of love and beauty, to assist you in discovering and enhancing your natural allure.

A Bath for Beauty

Although ritual cleansing is most often associated with the Christian tradition of baptism, water cleansing for spiritual rejuvenation is as old as magic.

Take advantage of spring’s energy of renewal and rebirth!

Instead of degrading your self-esteem with harsh, invasive beauty treatments, invest some time in learning to love yourself the way you are.

Baños rituales are a powerful way to cleanse the spirit and draw out inner beauty.

The following simple ritual bath is a lovely way to both celebrate Beltane and enhance your natural charms.

Creating a Beltane Goddess Bath Altar

I started by creating a bath altar.

This awesome little bath tray was very useful.  If you plan to to work with water or routinely indulge in ritual baths, I think it’s worth it to invest in a bath tray.  It makes a convenient surface to create a bath altar right over the water.

But feel free to use the counter or other flat surface near the tub in a pinch.

A bouquet of fresh flowers and candles is quite symbolic of the holiday, and of feminine grace.

Other items to consider on the altar include mirrors, a lavender-colored candle or seashells to honor Aphrodite.   Said to be born of the sea, Aphrodite’s energy is tightly coiled with the power and magic of the ocean.

Some Wildflowers to Include in Your Beauty Bath

Before your ritual bath, take the time to head out for a nature walk and gather some wildflowers.  They’re everywhere!  Any bunch will do, but the following flowers specifically symbolize beauty, grace and confidence.

Glicinia – Growing wild all over the Southern United States right around Beltane, wisteria is a classic flower of feminine grace and beauty.

Diente de león—There are so many ways to use dandelions in witchcraft.  In this case, add it to a beauty bath to restore confidence and allow the magnetic power of your natural beauty to shine through.

Jardín rosas–Be sure they’re yours!  But if your rose bushes bloomed big and early, gather a few to add to your bathwater to honor the goddess, Aphrodite.  She loves them!

Cherry Blossoms–If you are further up North, you may still have some cherry blossoms to work with.  These flowers represent youthful radiance.

“Brewing” Your Bathwater

I like to think of a baño ritual as a giant cauldron, and I blend my “brew” accordingly.  First, I always start by adding a generous handful of sea salt for cleansing.

I know some people just love to put herbs directly in the bathtub, and if that’s you, go for it!  Personally, I don’t like having the mess to clean up afterwards, so I use this tiny tea filter.

In this case, I used dried rosemary from the garden.

If you want to add essential oils, try a high quality rose oil.

Your Beauty Spell Goals

Much like other forms of magic, the results are rarely literal in the way you see on television or movies.  Often, we find that spell craft effects our lives in subtle ways we have trouble articulating.

Everyone  has known a woman who, though she is perhaps conventionally an unremarkable beauty in the physical sense, seems to have this captivating magnetism, a mysterious attractiveness that makes her seemingly irresistible.

That’s what you’re going for here.

Feel free to say an incantation or other blessing over the water.  Ask the Universe (or whatever) to draw your inner beauty out.  That’s what makes you truly magical.
