The astral is one of the subtle planes and whoever decides to cross the threshold of the physical body projects his soul outside of himself voluntarily to reach that specific dimension, through astral travel. This dimension is recognized by specific religions and philosophies, such as esotericism. Is astral projection safe? Let’s find out!

The trance and the astral plane are something that belongs to humanity since time immemorial in fact the ancient shamans of the pre-patriarchal period used to make lucid dreams in a state of trance and even leave the physical body to get concrete answers to problems of the tribe or individuals of a particular person.
Therefore, these abilities and exercises were born to ask questions to the divine, to approach another dimension and find in that the answers that could not be found on the daily material plane. Obviously, from prehistoric times to today the techniques and also the studies on the different planes, including the astral one, have changed.
Theosophy also studied this plan and the techniques related to trance.
Main benefits of astral projection
The purpose of an astral journey is to prepare the individual at the time of his death, or the final journey. In our society, there is a widespread feeling of fear with respect to death, and it is seen as a dramatic event that keeps us away from a loved one forever … there is nothing more terrible!
It is not so in the East: for the Buddhist religion, death is nothing but a passage of the soul, from a physical body to the complete astral body.
Who tried it in life will simply be more “trained” and will not find himself/herself displaced in managing the astral part of himself/herself.
Make a journey to the astral dimension
Making an astral journey is not easy, both the body and the mind must be prepared to do this task and therefore before undertaking it some rules must be observed, including that of focusing attention on only one of the five senses, this must be done because we must always remain aware of what happens to our outside.
It will be necessary to relax and generally, people choose to relax by listening to some specific melody that helps to stimulate tranquility, after which you can begin the journey.
Astral travel is also defined as an obe an acronym from English Out of Body Experience, sometimes the acronym is also oobe but much more rarely. Some premises on the astral or obe journey must, however, be made.
The first of these is that the astral journey can be spontaneous or desired, in the case of spontaneous obe many testimonies in this regard speak of a phenomenon that upsets those who live it because there is awareness of an alteration and often we wake up not moving the body physically, our advice if this happens is to focus attention on a single limb and relax and then start moving.
The voluntary astral travel is quite another topic, however, many texts are rich in experiences narrated by those who have chosen to take this path towards self-knowledge. In fact, the journey in the astral allows – if well mastered and precisely voluntary – to discover blocks and situations that perhaps in a waking or material state one does not want to discover and/or explore.
Symptoms of astral travel
Each of us experiences different extracorporeal experiences but we can identify, in broad terms, some characteristic symptoms. Among these, as suggested by astral travel expert William Buhlman, the typical feeling of drowsiness falling into the void, followed by a rude awakening.
Everything is, in those moments, when choosing whether to continue or intimidated by such feelings, to withdraw. It often happens because the emotion is strong as is the fear of moving away from oneself.
But it is precisely by letting yourself go that it is possible to take the next step. Other characteristic symptoms are vibrations along the body and body paralysis.
Rem sleep phase and astral travel
Various studies have been carried out on this topic and many agree that the journey in the astral – controlled or not – takes place in the rem phase of sleep or when the physical body and the soul separate from the etheric body that keeps them joined in other phases, of sleep and obviously of waking.
There is also someone who argues that not everyone can travel astral because in order to do so, one needs a soul and according to some theories not all people would have one, this theory is very rigid and in any case has gained support.
Returning to the rem phase of sleep, this facilitates the exit from the body of the soul thanks to the fact that the conscious phase is separate – or rather we should say detached – from the etheric body, therefore we have consciousness even if we do not remember it once awake, and the astral body travels thanks to the firm conscience.
Some theories also argue that the separation of the two bodies is necessary for the recharge of the etheric body that is called prana, due to the fact that during waking this naturally loses energy and therefore – just as naturally – must recover it in sleep.
It may also be thought that the bond can break, well apparently this is not possible because there is no testimony in this regard, but it must be said for consistency, however, that there are also those who maintain that during thunderstorms very intense and powerful lightning they can break the link between the physical and the astral body but this theory has never been demonstrated.
Furthermore, the natural bond between the three bodies always allows the re-entry of the astral body in a natural way, it is only the psyche that influences the walk and the re-entry of the astral body, as in the case we saw earlier, that is the momentary paralysis of the physical body upon awakening or the mind prompted by fears and tensions but in any case even in those conditions the astral body fits perfectly into the physical body.
Astral Journey and Hypnosis
It is certainly not easy to practice the experience of astral travel, some think that it is feasible only for the few enlightened but there are demonstrations about the help that hypnosis can give. So how do you make an astral journey? It is recommended to watch one of the many videos on the topic, which through music, sounds and a state of proper concentration can help you in this endeavor.

Astral travel: dangers and beliefs
Many are the “supposed” risks or dangers related to astral travel. It is true that the more information we have about the experience, the better and more appropriately we will act. But lacking external information does not mean that it is dangerous.
- Some spread that we can lose ourselves outside the body. Which is also not possible. We can be disoriented, not knowing where we are, but just by thinking about the physical body or something related to the matter, we are already in the body again.
- Another argument that can unmask the supposed risks of astral travel is that children and young people spontaneously experience involuntary astral travel. And, despite their fragility, we can all see that they experience them without suffering any kind of damage.
The greatest danger is the lack of information to the population by hiding it. The lack of clear information can distort the experience, generating greater fears in naive people. But our astral body cannot be hurt or injured when we are doing astral travel.
We do not believe it is possible, at least not easily, for an evil spirit to enter the body of the traveler, so much so that everyone well knows that the evil spirit certainly does not require the absence of the occupied soul, but forms of coexistence are numerous and identified. with the “possession”. It is therefore good to inform yourself first of the real dangers so as not to run into conditioning and self-conviction that would ruin the experience of astral travel.
But what if, when you are that vulnerable a demon tries to possess you?
Astral Projection Demons & Symptoms of demonic possession
The three symptoms described above are related to most of the extraordinary malignancies even though they may be outside the actual possession. The ritual of exorcisms states that according to established practice, the concomitance of these signs must be considered signs of diabolical possession:
- to manifest a force superior to age or physical condition;
- speak (or understand) unknown and/or remote languages never learned naturally;
- reveal hidden and distant things.
Again, according to the Ritual, such phenomena can also be caused by other causes; however, if they present themselves associated with “violent aversion to the sacred”, they can probably reveal the diabolical presence. This aversion to the sacred is expressed in words and gestures full of hatred and fury towards God, the Madonna, the saints, and the elements (water or blessed objects, relics, sacraments and sacramentals in general) and sacred images.
This kind of aversion, unlike the psychological or ideological kind – which is generally constant and not necessarily violent – is sudden, limited in time and abruptly interrupted. Among the reactions we can find we find: reacting violently to someone’s mental prayer, burping and coughing or vomiting when someone prays (even mentally), being unable to pray because the mouth is blocked, feeling the hand like an unbearable weight of the Priest imposed on the head, to receive burns on the body following the contact with the crucifix or other sacred objects or holy water, mouth and teeth that are paralyzed when they receive the Eucharist, to always be sick in the main liturgical days of the year, to be repugnant to all that is blessed, to tear off previously blessed clothes, to know the hidden sins of those present, etc.
A further sign to identify a condition of possession is represented by the fact that at the end of the “crisis” the possessed person no longer remembers anything of what he said and did. During the state of possession, the subject enters a state of trance similar to that of the “mediums” and the occultists in general.
During this phase the subject can say everything, laugh, offend, threaten those present and many others as already described in the section concerning the ordinary and extraordinary acts of Satan.
Conclusion: is astral projection safe?
Some argue that traveling in the astral can have a series of dangerous consequences. There are those who say that the physical body during the absence of the astral body can be prey to demons, while those who claim that the risks of possessions have their astral body, who thinks that the cord that binds the two bodies during the journey can be truncated by other astral entities, even up to those who think that there is a risk of never returning.
I believe that there are no actual risks, although as always, I feel like saying that they are things to do with the right preparation, especially from people who are more sensitive.
